La Perouse
La Perouse is a historic coastal suburb on the northern headland of Botany Bay, about 14 km southeast of Sydney CBD. It is known for its dramatic coastline, Aboriginal heritage, historic sites, and beautiful views across Botany Bay.

The area is named after Jean-François de La Pérouse, a French explorer who arrived at Botany Bay in 1788, shortly after the First Fleet arrived in Australia. A monument near the waterfront commemorates his visit and the historic connection between France and Australia.
One of the most famous landmarks is Bare Island, a small island connected to the mainland by a footbridge. The island is home to a historic fort built in the late 19th century to help defend Sydney Harbour and Botany Bay. It has also appeared in several films, most famously Mission: Impossible II.
La Perouse is also an important place for Aboriginal history and culture, particularly for the Dharawal people. The surrounding area has been inhabited by Aboriginal people for thousands of years, and the La Perouse Aboriginal community has a strong continuing connection to the area.
